How do I start my pass?
Grab your agent reference or PNR number and give our reservations crew a call on (+64) 9 336 4286, or email firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll get you sorted. All we'll need is your start date and your first pick up location. Make sure you get in touch as soon as you have your travel dates, especially in summer to ensure your seat on our bus.
What do I need to show in order to board the bus for the first time?
All you need to board our service once you've activated your pass with a start date is some form of your photo ID (passport/driver's license.) You will then be issued with a bus ticket once you are on board our coach.
How long is my Kiwi Experience pass valid for?
From the first day you purchase your travel pass, you have 12 months to activate your pass with a start date (within those 12 months.) You then have a further 12 months from the first day you begin travelling with us to complete your travel pass with us.
What's included in my pass?
Comfy, modern coach transport with informative, entertaining commentary. Plus heaps of exclusive activities, walks and discounts!
(NOT included; Ferry crossing from Wellington>Picton & Picton>Wellington. All meals, accommodation, and activities also come at an additional cost, but awesome discounted rates often apply. Chat with our driver guides and they will be happy to help you book both accommodation and activities!)
Do I need to pre-book accommodation & activities?
There is no need to pre-book your accommodation. When you are travelling into each location we can guarantee all our passengers availability for your first night's stay at our recommended hostels throughout New Zealand. (Paihia, Auckland, Hot Water Beach, Waitomo, Rotorua, River Valley & Wellington.) (Kaiteriteri, Westport, Wanaka, Lake Tekapo, Christchurch & Kaikoura.)
We then guarantee 2x consecutive night's accommodation at Taupo and Franz Joseph, as we have a 2x night stop at these two locations. And in Queenstown, we can guarantee you up to 4x consecutive night's accommodation, because Queenstown is extra AWESOME and most of our passengers spend quite a long time in this town.
You can book activities through your Driver Guide. We get space saved for people travelling with us on most activities and we guarantee the best price available when you book through your Driver Guide.
Can I change my departure dates?
If you have limited time in New Zealand make sure you book in advance with our reservations crew. Our Driver Guides will also be able to help once you're on the road, plus you'll get our handy Kiwi Experience Guide that will tell you everything you need to know about your trip of a lifetime.
Can I skip stops that I don't wish to spend overnight in?
No! Not using our service. The towns we spend overnight in are compulsory overnight stops. In saying that, there is no specific order that you need to complete your pass in. If you become short on time, or don't want to stay somewhere we are staying overnight in, you are more than welcome to find alternative transport (Intercity, Naked Bus, Mana Bus or Flights) from 1xplace to the next and re-meet with our bus service at one of our pick up points once you're ready to re-join our service.
How much money do I need?
Hostel accommodation is usually between NZ $25.00 - $35.00 a night. Activities will depend on what you choose to do. Check out our Kiwi Experience Guide (free with every Kiwi Experience pass) to see what activities will cost you and the discounts you can get whilst travelling with us.
How much luggage can I take with me whilst travelling on Kiwi Experience?
Just the essentials. Sunscreen, insect repellent, credit card, walking shoes swimwear, towel, a warm jacket, camera and a sense of humour.

My friends and I have different travel passes with Kiwi Experience, can we still travel on the same buses?
Definitely! If your travel passes cover the same areas, you can definitely travel together regardless of what travel pass you've purchased.
