Mt Eden has one of the best views of Auckland from its 196-metre high summit. On top of this extinct volcano, with its three scoria cones and crater, you'll find a great look-out point for prominent Auckland landmarks such as the Sky Tower, Rangitoto Island and the Auckland Museum buildings. It is also the site of one of the first Maori pa (or fort) where you can still see the outlines of storage pits used by Maori tribes to keep food for long winter months or in times of siege.
