Want to see & do it all? Starting in the adventure capital Queenstown, this tour covers the South Islands glaciers, mountain passes and pristine coasts before heading to the action-packed North Island. Adventure activities aplenty throughout the trip, with accommodation and some activities included (see below), our all-inclusive tours are hassle-free, authentic experiences for those short on time. From to Queenstown to Auckland and everything in between, this tour has New Zealand covered.

This tour departs at 8:00 am from Queenstown Nomads (5/11 Church Street, Queenstown). Breakfast will be at Red Rock after the Nomads departure.

Day 1Queenstown

Arrival day into Queenstown – check into your accommodation, Nomads Queenstown. The adventure capital of the world has endless activities to keep you entertained. Try your hand at activities such as white water rafting, bungy jumping, skydiving, jet-boating or canyon swinging… if you dream it, it probably exists here in Queenstown. Speak to your Driver Guide who will be able to point you in the right direction.

Day 2Queenstown to Franz Josef

Leaving bright and early we leave behind Queenstown and set off for Franz Josef. This is one of the most scenic drives of your tour. We’ll cruise by the breath-taking Lake Hawea, past the aptly named ‘Blue Pools’ and visit the pounding Thunder Creek Falls before visiting Lake Matheson; a spot that makes a mockery of Instagram filters. We’ll then arrive in Franz Josef where we’ll retire to a wilderness hostel deep in the rainforest itself.

Day 3Franz Josef

Incredible Franz Josef sits in the world heritage area, the combination of alpine scenery and west coast rainforest makes for an epic setting for your free day. You can experience a Heli-Hike on the glacier or you can explore this lush corner of New Zealand (for free) on foot; hitting up the many walking trails in the area. Relax afterwards in a Hot Spring with breathtaking views.

Day 4Franz Josef to Christchurch

Today we travel from coast to coast right over the Southern Alps! We’ll stop for the chance to carve your own greenstone necklaces (pounamu), a unique gift from this special place. Then a journey through the Arthur’s Pass National Park, a landscape of 2 halves. Ascending the western side, we’ll venture through dense rainforest alongside and over deeply gorged rivers, on the eastern side, you'll see wide, shingle-filled riverbeds and vast swathes of beech forest. Along this road, we will stop off at the Devil’s Punch Bowl and the breath-taking Castle Hill (included).

Day 5Christchurch to Kaikoura

Departing Christchurch bright and early, we arrive in Kaikoura in time for you to check out what it's most famous for – its whale watching or swimming with the dolphins. Spend the evening chilling on the beach or sampling some of the best seafood New Zealand has to offer for your dinner. In fact, the name Kaikoura means to eat crayfish (“kai” meaning to eat, “koura” meaning crayfish).

Day 6Kaikoura to Abel Tasman

We head north and take in the last of the dramatic Kaikoura coastline. It’s a spectacular drive and we stop for a close look at the seals that lay about on the rocks. Arriving into the top of the South Island we’ll journey through the dreamy Marlborough region, home to more vineyards than your eyes can see. Stopping off for a tasting (or two…) along the way. Next is Tasman Bay home to the city of Nelson and our destination Abel Tasman.

Day 7Abel Tasman (Free Day)

Beautiful Abel Tasman National Park is famous for its lush forest framing golden sand beaches and fur seals playing in crystal clear waters. To make the most of your free day, we have a range of activities for you to choose from, so you can experience Abel Tasman the way you want to. Options include Hiking the Coastal track, Kayaking, Sailing or catching a Water Taxi into the heart of the National Park, your Driver Guide will help you plan your perfect day.

Day 8Abel Tasman to Wellington

We have an early start to journey over to Picton to board the Interislander ferry across to the North Island. Arriving in Wellington mid-afternoon your Driver Guide will take you on a tour of the city, you then have some free time to soak up the vibes in the cool capital before checking out the nightlife.

Day 9Wellington to River Valley

Today we journey up the North Island to the ultimate adventure lodge - River Valley, situated amongst towering cliffs and bush-clad hills. River Valley Lodge offers grade five rafting on the Rangitikei River, scenic horse riding and an amazing dinner with homegrown produce. Spend the evening enjoying the delicious roast dinner and relaxing by the open fire.

Day 10River Valley to Taupo

After breakfast at River Valley Lodge, we head north towards the Tongariro National Park for a picnic lunch and a walk through native bush and waterfalls. Included today is a trip on the amazing Skywaka on Mount Ruapehu. This afternoon we travel around the “great lake” towards the Adventure capital of the North: Taupo. The lake itself (actually an extinct volcano crater) is a sight to behold from the shoreline, but the more adventurous might want to take the opportunity to experience optional activities such as sail across the lake on a yacht to the Māori rock carvings, or even get a birds-eye view by skydiving above it.

Day 11Taupo to Rotorua

This morning there is time in Taupo for morning activities such as Bungy, Jet boating and exploring the thermal features of great Lake Taupo. We pay a visit to Huka Falls, a jaw-dropping waterfall on the Waikato River before travelling north on the thermal explorer highway to Rotorua. Your Driver Guide will take you on a tour to see the sights of this unique city, New Zealand’s geothermal capital and the heartland of Maori Culture. It’s a mystical land of bubbling mud pools, rocketing geysers and natural hot springs. This evening, experience the Tamaki Maori Village where you will be immersed in the traditions and cultural values of the Māori people. Participate in a pōwhiri (welcoming ceremony), learn about the history of the marae (village) and the Rotorua-area from a local Māori guide before feasting on some top kai (food) from the hāngi pit. Afterwards, gather around a blazing bonfire where you will enjoy Māori myths and legends before relaxing in a private forest spa pool and retiring for the night in a traditional carved whare moi (sleeping house).

Day 12Rotorua to Waitomo

After breakfast at the Tamaki Maori Village to conclude your cultural experience, we head into Rotorua. There is time for optional activities (which are not included) Te Puia, luging at SkyLine, Zorb, or a visit to the Redwoods Forest. Then, we head off across rolling green farmland towards the King Country, home to New Zealand’s largest cave network; Waitomo. You’ll have a chance to check out the amazing caves and their famous glowworm residents, by joining a guided walking tour or by putting on a wetsuit and experiencing the incredible Black Water Rafting.

Day 13Waitomo to Raglan

After breakfast at our exclusive accommodation, we’re off to one of New Zealand’s most famous surf breaks at Raglan on the wild west coast. Along the way, we’ll stop off for a walk to visit the very impressive 55m high Bridal Veil Falls. Raglan is both a surfing mecca and a dramatically scenic area of black sand coastline. Many people believe that Manu Bay on this coast has the longest, most accessible and consistent left-hand break in the world. This afternoon is your chance to try out the world-class surf or explore the awesome coastline.

Day 14Raglan to Auckland

Perhaps an early morning surf as you’ll have a few hours to enjoy Raglan this morning before our journey to Auckland. New Zealand’s biggest city has lots to offer and we arrive in the early afternoon so you can make the most of your time in the City of Sails. Tonight, join us for a taste of Auckland nightlife and celebrate the end of the tour.

Faq's

  • I’m a solo traveller... will I meet other solo travellers?

    Absolutely! The majority of our passengers are travelling solo. Kiwi Experience is a social experience guaranteed to leave with new friends from across the globe.

  • Am I too old/young for Kiwi Experience?

    We welcome the young, and the young at heart aboard our buses, there is no upper limit! There is however a lower limit; you’ll need to be 18 at the time of travel.

  • How much should I budget for each day?

    We recommend you budget between $70 - $100 per day to cover food and super fun times. From time to time, it may be worth putting a little more aside to pay for the really crazy stuff like skydiving.

  • How much luggage am I allowed to bring?

    Passengers are allowed one 23kg suitcase/backpack and one day bag, as there are strict weight restrictions on our buses.

  • What are your COVID-19 Health and Safety measures?

    Now that New Zealand has moved to Level 2, bus travel is permitted. We will ensure that we adhere strictly to government guidelines for tourism operators to minimise risk to our travellers, staff and operators.

    What this will mean:

    • We will be doing everything we can to reduce the risk of transmission and we will be playing it safe. Social distancing is possible at all times.
    • Travellers will be required to sign a declaration of health prior to beginning the tour.
    • Surfaces inside the bus will be wiped down regularly.
    • Hand sanitizer will also be available
