Great way for friend and family bonding activity

Best way to travel around the south island. Perfect time to travel, although slightly cold.

My boyfriend and I bought the passes on offer last year- we both agree it's definitely the best way to see all the best sights and do all the best activities in NZ, and you get to meet lots of people on the way. My only advice would be that either more buses need to be on, or bus pass vendors need to warn people to book ahead of time- luckily we had booked all our buses early, but we were hoping to change a few when we got there which wasn't possible due to big waiting lists everywhere. A few of our friends who hadn't booked ahead ended up having to either wait longer in certain places or buying inter-city passes to get around which spoiled their experience a little. I think the "hop on/hop off" idea is a big part of the appeal to travellers who don't know where they love yet, so it's a shame it wasn't really a possibility.

I bought the sheepdog pass back in January and was apprehensive on what I was getting myself in for, but the friends you meet along the way on the bus, the activities and experiences you share and the views you see is incredible.
