I brought my kiwi experience pass about a week before landing in New Zealand. It’s been the highlight of my RTW trip so far! Amazing people, good value for money and such a great country to explore. The kiwi experience doesn’t come without its flaws though. They advertise the buses as ‘hop on hop off’ but this isn’t the case. The majority of people on my bus were stuck on waitlists and many had to continuioisly change plans due to buses and accommodation being oversubscribed. When speaking to the kiwi office on the phone they were rude and didn’t have the answers to our questions. I understand the popularity of the kiwi experience but more needs to be done to cater for the sheer amount of people travelling.

i had been recommended to buy this and am happy i did as gets you from a to b very easily. however it does seem a bit like a school trip, especially when they take you to isolated places and have no choice in staying in a particular hostel and u have no choice but to pay for the dinner meal at the hostel too. what annoyed me about my experience was that they cut down so many buses that there was absolutely no flexibility and you weren’t able to change buses otherwise you would get onto a waiting list (in which there is such a short chances you would actually get on). if they call this bus pass ‘hop on and hop off’, then that’s what it should be but they cut down so many bad buses that there was only like 3 a week. the buses were also so full that people who had bought the passes had to get hire cars as kiwi experience was so unhelpful- i’m just happy i didn’t get put into that situation

A good way to travel around New Zealand and meet some new friends

Did Kiwi experience for a month and met so many people. The hostels we stayed in were generally nice but the only annoying thing is that there are not always buses running everyday which means you have to change your plans to work around the buses. And this is quite inconvenient if you are on minimum time. Apart from that, it’s a great way to see New Zealand as a first-time visitor!
