Cute lambs

Spring is most definitely lamb season! Lush green fields all over the country start to fill with these adorable, slightly clumsy creatures. Spot them (attempting) to leap about on their skinny little legs and generally just looking very cute and fluffy.

Shred the slopes

Spring is your last chance to check out our awesome ski fields and get in some spring skiing. Blue skies, mild temperatures and decent snow cover make for awesome days on slopes. Depending on snow cover the slopes usually stay open until late September, though if it’s a cracker of a season this can even stretch until October!

Spring hiking

The perfect time of year to get limbered up for some hiking. Sunny spring days and lack of crowds mean you’ve got some of our epic hikes to yourself. Even better ski one day and hike the next, or if you’re feeling brave throw a swim in for the complete ski/ hike/ swim trio.

Head north for an early start to summer

The "Winterless North" as its known, usually makes a head start on summer. Head to the Bay of Islands or up to Cape Reinga to make the most of it's ahead-of-the-game sunny days and balmy ocean temperatures. Even if the water is still a little nippy, this is one of the best places to spot dolphins frolicking on the shore, so it’s well worth jumping in!

 Juicy Fruits

A little later on in spring our favourite fruity time of year kicks off with deliciously sweet strawberries, cherries, apricots and plenty more juicy goodness coming into season. Bonus points if you get your fruit extra fresh from a roadside farmers stall!
